Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to dress up to attend church?

Most people dress casually, including people in a leadership role. But if you want to dress up, that’s okay, too.

Do you have an evening worship service?

Not regularly. On special occasions, as announced, there might be a Sunday evening event, such as a Worship Night or a Hymn Sing. However, there are evening Small Groups that meet during the week.

Do you have Sunday morning programs for children?

Ministry to the next generation is a vital part of our church’s mission. Our 9:00 a.m. Sunday School hour offers classes for all ages, including K-2nd Grade, 3rd-5th Grade, a Middle School/High School Class and three adult classes.

What midweek programs do you offer for children and teens?

On Wednesday evenings during the school year we offer the AWANA program for children through 5th grade. During the school year, Youth Group for Middle School and High School meets on Sunday evenings at 5:00 pm. Other youth and kids events are planned for the summer. Contact us for more information.

What does the term “Evangelical Free” in your name mean?

It designates our congregation as a member of the Evangelical Free Church of America. “Evangelical” refers to our belief in the authority of the Bible and salvation through faith in Christ. “Free” refers to the fact that our congregation, like other EFCA churches, is self-governing. For more information about the EFCA, visit www.efca.org.

What do you believe about Baptism and the Lord’s Supper?

We believe that baptism and the Lord’s Supper are God’s ordinances for the church.  As such, they are an opportunity for us to obey Jesus’ commands and picture His death, burial, and resurrection. We practice baptism by immersion. We open communion for all those who have put their trust in Jesus for salvation, whether they are members, attenders, or visitors.

How can I get connected?

We have Small Group ministry designed to both connect you to the local body as well as provide you opportunity to discern and practice your spiritual gifts. We have a Sunday School hour that begins weekly at 9:00 am.  We have programmed opportunities for men and women as well as families, children, and teens, throughout the year.

How do I become a member?

Members of The Evangelical Free Church of Keokuk have a personal testimony of faith in Jesus. We have periodic membership classes that meet on a three-week schedule.  After attending the class and sharing your faith story, the elders would recommend you to the church for membership.
